After an action-packed day of Muay Thai and kickboxing, these are the Victory 12 results from the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.
In the main event of the evening, Joe Welch became the new WBC MuayThai European Middleweight Champion with a first-round TKO.
Welch expected a long, tough fight against Cristian Vasile, but he brought the contest to a close inside two minutes thanks to his destructive leg kicks.
The Northern Kings representative caused a huge gash on Vasile’s front leg, which left the officials no choice but to stop the fight.
In the evening’s co-main event, Jack Bullock claimed the biggest win of his career, as well as the WBC MuayThai European Super Middleweight Title, after five rounds of action against Amadeusz Sakowicz.
Bullock showed his ability to fight on the back foot and coming forward as he earned the nod from each of the judges.
The Northern Kings representative set the tone with his boxing in the early rounds, and then scored a knockdown in round three with a big left hook.
Sakowicz continued to absorb big shots in round four, before putting Bullock under pressure in the fifth and final round. However, Bullock kept his composure and had already done enough to take the belt home.
Between the two title fights, Paul Morris and Mark Amos went toe-to-toe in one of the most exciting and competitive contests of the night.
Both men were willing to come forward, but they also displayed excellent technical striking throughout a fast-paced encounter.
After three rounds of Muay Thai action, both men had their hands in the air, but Hanuman Edinburgh’s Amos kept his raised after earning the tightest of majority decisions.
The main card’s quickest finish came courtesy of Reece Johnson over Rob Laws.
The Strikers Academy product came out swinging from the first bell and quickly overwhelmed his rival with punches.
A huge right uppercut brought the first knockdown after little more than a minute, before a big knee forced Laws to face another count from the referee a few seconds later.
Another big Johnson right hand in the final minute of round 1 finished the matchup in style.
Ubaid Hussain showed why he is regarded as a rising star of UK Muay Thai with an impressive victory against Sudais Mohammed.
Hussain controlled much of the action by walking Mohammed down for all three rounds.
Mohammed never looked in danger of being finished, but Hussain’s fitness and intensity were just too much to handle, and they helped the Kiathontip representative to claim a well-deserved win on the scorecards.
One of the most dominant performances of the night came from Northern Kings’ Harry Purvis.
Despite facing an opponent with more experience in Charlie McGhee, Purvis looked composed as he pressed forward and caused damage with elbows.
The damage to McGhee was checked throughout the fight, and although he made it to the final bell, there was no doubt that Purvis had earned the win by unanimous decision.
In women’s Muay Thai action, Yasmin Nazary took a hard-earned win from Andrea Altadill.
Nazary had come in as a replacement for McKenna Wade, and she had to survive a ton of pressure from Altadill.
However, she used all of her veteran experience to weather the storm, turn the tide, and take the decision on all the judges’ cards.
A back-and-forth battle between Jamie Gillies and Thomas McGeachan brought the first finish in the night’s man card.
From the first bell, both athletes engaged in bruising exchanges at close quarters. Both fighters had success, but Gillies’ x-factor was his strength and aggression.
Toward the end of the second stanza, the man SMTC broke McGeachan’s posture to land knees to the head and force the referee to step in.
The main card opened with an exciting 3-round Muay Thai battle between Will Baxxter and Dean Logan.
Baxter started fast and caused significant damage in round one, but Logan survived and ended up dominating the closing stages.
Logan made his height advantage count in the clinch and caused a couple of eight-counts with knees to claim a unanimous decision.
