Matty Maguire has recently moved over to the Shildon based gym Phoenix Muay Thai where owner and head coach Gary McAllister now trains him. Matty fought a tough opponent back in March and lost to Myk Estlick but he is definitely coming back with a vengeance to bring the title back home! I had a quick chat with Matty and he told us about a little bit about him, his time over at phoenix:

“Got into Thai boxing years ago went to a few sessions with my uncle and got the bug straight away. I’m really enjoying training at Phoenix Gaz McAllister is one of the best coaches in the world you just got to look at the fighters he produces to back that up were working on all new things and totally changing my game I’m looking forward to put it all together for this fight. I’m very exited to be fighting for the north east tittle I’ll be doing everything I can to bring the belt home with me I can see it being a great fight! I don’t no a great deal about my opponent Ino he’s from a good gym heard he’s a tuff game lad I don’t really focus on that to much I’m more focused in getting myself in the best shape I possible can be and to deal with what ever comes my way!!
I am really looking forward to fight on the victory promotions it’s going to be a great fight!”

Upon having a chat with Steve he is hungry for the fight too, he too would like to bring home the belt and has high aspirations for the future:

“I am from Newcastle and have been training Muay Thai for the past 4 years, fighting for about 2 years. I have had 8 fights. 5 wins 3 losses. I started Muay Thai just by chance, I hadn’t heard of it until a lad from work told me about it and have trained ever since. Really looking forward to the fight with Matty. It’s going to be a good fight and a real test. I don’t tend to study my opponents. I just listen to my coach and work on my game plan. Just concentrate on the fight! If I win I plan to just keep doing what I’m doing and see what opportunities come my way and hopefully end up on some of the biggest shows in the UK!!”

Two very talented, hungry lads wanting to bring home the UKMF North East title! Both of which I am sure will put everything into their training to be ready for the 25th June. We will be conducting interviews with the fighters in the coming week so watch this space as we begin to put them out there for you!

You can get in touch with them for tickets or you can email us at for more info
